The history of Mehter dates back to Orhun Inscriptions of the VII th, the oldest writing source in Turkish. Mehter carries the exuberant rbytbms of classical Turkish music to the present time. The instruments used are sbrill-pipe or "zurna", the Mehter born, bass-drum, kettle drum, cymbals "kös" and chevgen. Mehter continues it's activities in Istanbul; Military Museum, Cultural Center Command of the General Staff. Today, Mehter represents the oldest and most historic military band under the Turkish flag in international competitions.
