The Holy Mountain Athos • 1

The Holy Mountain Athos • 1 Video Clips. Duration : 13.02 Mins.

Mount Athos as a monastic community was formally founded in 963, when St. Athanasius (not to be confused with the 4th century St. Athanasius the Great) established the monastery of Great Lavra, still the largest and most prominent of the 20 monasteries. It enjoyed the protection of the emperors of the Eastern Roman Empire during the following centuries and its wealth and possessions grew considerably. The Fourth Crusade in the 13th century brought new Roman Catholic overlords which forced the monks to seek protection from Pope Innocent III, until the restoration of the Byzantine Empire. It was raided by Catalan mercenaries in the 14th century, a century that also saw the theological conflict over the hesychasm practised on Mount Athos and defended by Gregory Palamas. The Byzantine Empire collapsed in the 15th century and the newly established Islamic Ottoman Empire took over. They heavily taxed the monasteries, but for the most part left them alone. The population of monks and their wealth declined over the next centuries, but was revitalised around the 19th century by the donations and new arrivals from other Orthodox countries, such as Russia, Bulgaria, Romania and Serbia, while each country came to exert its influence on individual monasteries. In 1912, during the First Balkan War, the Ottomans were forced out and after a brief conflict between Greece and Russia over sovereignty, the peninsula formally came under Greek sovereignty after World War I. Politically the ...

Sen Cok Yasa Osman Pasa Tube. Duration : 2.93 Mins.

The Ottoman Empire was one of the longest running and largest empires in existence, at it's height it had encompassed much of the known world yet throughout it's history it gave respect to the subjects of the empire, allowing them to practice their culture, religion and identity. The rise of mass nationalism early in the 20th century sealed the fate of the empire and some 50 plus nations were created out of the what was known as the sick man of Europe. In retrospect it's greatest strength being equal treatment for all people within the empire also become it's greatest weakness as the Ottomans did not naturalize the people that it had conquered unlike many other empires that did or attempted to do. Contrary to popular western belief the Ottomans did not force the non Muslim subjects to fight in it's wars. It did however in the exchange of its Christian subjects not having to serve military service (which usually consisted of years long end military service) charge an additional war time tax known as Jizra which supported financially the empire's war efforts. Christian subjects that did however fight in the name of the Ottomans against the myriad of the Ottomans enemies were not required to pay this tax. The most well known Christian warriors of the Ottoman empire were the famous Janissaries who were fanatically loyal to the Sultan. They were Christian children brought in from the Balkans who's Christian parents often competed with each other in order to gain the attention ...

Greek Army Parade(Greek War of Independence-1821)25-3-09 Part 2 Tube. Duration : 5.08 Mins.

Informations from:en.wikipedia.org War_of_Independence The Greek War of Independence (also known as the Greek Revolution) (Greek: Ελληνική Επανάσταση Elliniki Epanastasi; Ottoman Turkish: يونان عصياني Yunan İsyanı) was a successful war of independence waged by the Greek revolutionaries between 1821 and 1829, with later assistance from several European powers, against the Ottoman Empire, who were assisted by their vassals, the Egyptian Khedivate. After a long and bloody struggle, the Greeks thus became the first people of the Ottoman Empire's subjects to secure recognition as an independent nation by the Treaty of Constantinople in July 1832. The anniversary of Greece's independence (March 25, 1821) is a national holiday in Greece and was deliberately chosen to coincide with the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary. The Fall of Constantinople in 1453 and the subsequent fall of the successor states of the Eastern Roman, or Byzantine, Empire marked the end of Byzantine sovereignty. Since then, the Ottoman Empire ruled the Balkans, Anatolia, and most other formerly Greek-speaking regions with the exception of the Ionian Islands, Agrafa mountains, Sfakia region of Crete, Souli and the Mani Peninsula.[2] While many Greeks under Ottoman rule preserved their culture and traditions, largely with the help of the Greek Orthodox Church, they were a subject people and lacked basic political rights, with few exceptions.[citation needed] However, in the 18th and 19th century, as ...

Belgrade capital city of Serbia part 1 HD Tube. Duration : 4.73 Mins.

Belgrade (Serbian: Београд, Beograd pronounced is the capital and largest city of Serbia. The city lies at the confluence of the Sava and Danube rivers, where the Pannonian Plain meets the Balkans. With a population of 1630000 (official estimate 2007),[3] Belgrade is the fourth largest city in Southeastern Europe, after Istanbul, Athens and Bucharest. Its name in Serbian translates to White city. Belgrade's wider city area was the birthplace of the largest prehistoric culture of Europe, the Vinča culture, as early as the 6th millennium In antiquity, the area of Belgrade was inhabited by the Thraco-Dacian tribe of Singi who would give the name to the city after a fortress was founded in the 3rd century BC by the Celts, who named it Singidun (dun, fortress) It was awarded city rights by the Romans before it was permanently settled by Serbs from the 7th century onwards. As a strategic location, the city was battled over in 115 wars and razed to the ground 44 times since the ancient period by countless armies of the East and West. In medieval times, it was in the possession of Byzantine, Frankish, Bulgarian, Hungarian and Serbian rulers. In 1521 Belgrade was conquered by the Ottomans and became the seat of the Pashaluk of Belgrade, as the principal city of Ottoman Europe and among the largest European cities. Frequently passing from Ottoman to Austrian rule which saw destruction of most of the city, the status of Serbian capital would be regained only in 1841, after the ...

Armenian Folk Music - Anna Armenakyan - Tsaxkazard HD Tube. Duration : 5.65 Mins.

Rate & Subscribe The Armenian civilization had its beginnings 5000 years ago. Armenia lies in the highlands surrounding the Biblical mountains of Ararat. The original Armenian name for the country was Hayk, later Hayastan (Armenian: Հայաստան), translated as the land of Haik, and consisting of the name Haik and the suffix '-stan' (land). The name Armenia was given to the country by the surrounding states, and it is traditionally derived from Armenak or Aram (the great-grandson of Haik's great-grandson, and another leader who is, according to Armenian tradition, the ancestor of all Armenians). In the Bronze Age, several states flourished in the area of Greater Armenia, including the Hittite Empire (at the height of its power), Mitanni (South-Western historical Armenia), and Hayasa-Azzi (1600-1200 BC). Soon after the Hayasa-Azzi were the Nairi (1400-1000 BC) and the Kingdom of Ararat (1000-600 BC), who successively established their sovereignty over the Armenian Highlands. Each of the aforementioned Armenian tribes participated in the ethnogenesis of the Armenian people.[1] Yerevan, the modern capital of Armenia, was founded in 782 BC by king Argishti I. The Iron Age kingdom of Ararat was replaced by the Orontid dynasty. Following Persian and Macedonian rule, the Artaxiad dynasty from 190 BC gave rise to the Kingdom of Armenia which rose to the peak of its influence under Tigranes II before falling under Roman rule. In 301, Arsacid Armenia was the first sovereign ...

Au cinéma le 12 octobre 2012 ''1683, la Bataille de Vienne''. Les européens chassent les musulmans Video Clips. Duration : 0.65 Mins.

Thank you for watching this video please rate/comment. This video is not realistic it is just an example. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Battle of Varna took place on November 10, 1444 near Varna in eastern Bulgaria. In this battle the Ottoman Empire under Sultan Murad II defeated the Polish and Hungarian armies under Władysław III of Poland and János Hunyadi. It was the final battle of the Crusade of Varna. A mixed Christian army consisting mainly of Hungarian and Polish forces, with smaller detachments of Czechs, papal knights, Teutonic Knights, Bosnians, Croatians, Bulgarians, Wallachians, Lithuanians, Serbs and Ruthenians (Ukrainians), met with a numerically superior Turkish army. The Christian right wing attempted to flee to the small fortress of Galata on the other side of Varna Bay, but most of them were slain in the marshland around Varna Lake. The other Ottoman flank assaulted the Hungarians and Bulgarians. Their push was stopped and turned back. Hunyadi decided to help and advised Władysław to wait until he returned. The young king, ignoring Hunyadi's advice, rushed 500 of his Polish knights against the Ottoman center. They attempted to overrun the Janissary infantry and take Murad prisoner. But the cavalry charge was stopped and the king slain by the unyielding Janissary bodyguards, his head was cut off and later taken to the Ottoman court. The remaining Polish cavalry was smashed by the Ottomans. On his return ...

THE CRUSADE, THE BATTLE OF LEPANTO. ENG. 03. Video Clips. Duration : 14.02 Mins.

The Battle of Lepanto took place on 7 October 1571 when a fleet of the Holy League, a coalition of Catholic maritime states, decisively defeated the main fleet of the Ottoman Empire in five hours of fighting on the northern edge of the Gulf of Patras, off western Greece. The Ottoman forces sailing westwards from their naval station in Lepanto (Turkish: İnebahtı; Greek: Ναύπακτος or Έπαχτος Naupaktos or Épahtos) met the Holy League forces, which had come from Messina. The Victory of the Holy League prevented the Mediterranean Sea from becoming an uncontested highway for Muslim forces, protected Italy from a major Ottoman invasion, and prevented the Ottomans from advancing further into the southern flank of Europe. Lepanto was the last major naval battle in the Mediterranean fought entirely between galleys, and has been assigned great symbolic importance.

Serbian history tour: Viminacium, Ram, Golubac, Smederevo Fortress Tube. Duration : 8.55 Mins.

Viminacium (VIMINACIVM) was a major city (provincial capital) and military camp of the Roman province of Moesia (today's Serbia), and the capital of Moesia Superior. The site is located 12 km from the modern town of Kostolac in Eastern Serbia. The city dates back to the 1st century AD, and at its peak it is believed to have 40.000 habitants, and was one of the biggest cities of that time. It lies on the Roman road Via Militaris. Viminacium was devastated by Huns in the 5th century, but rebuilt by Justinian. It was completely destroyed with the arrival of Slavs in the 6th century. The archeological site occupies a total of 450 hectares, and contains remains of temples, streets, squares, amphitheatres, palaces, hippodromes and Roman baths. The Ram Fortress is situated on a steep slope on the right bank of the River Danube, in the municipality of Veliko Gradište, Serbia. The place first finds its reference in Trajanic times as a settlement where the cavalry units were stationed. In the year 1128 CE, it is mentioned as being in the area where the Byzantines defeated the Hungarians. Sultan Bayazid II (1480--1512) built the present fortifications of Ram Fortress, in the form of a regular pentagon designed to withstand cannon warfare. The side towards the land has a low wall with a wide moat in front of it. Apart from the place, where the fortress is entered, there are four corner towers. Masonry fireplace -- rare in the medieval buildings of this region -- are preserved in them ...

Turkish Islamic art of Marbling (Ebru)

Turkish Islamic art of Marbling (Ebru) Video Clips. Duration : 9.38 Mins.

The word marbling is in Turkish EBRU (cloud, cloudy) or abru (Water face) (En Français. It is derived from the word ebre which belongs to one of the older Central Asian languages and it means the "moiré, veined fabric, paper etc..." used for covering some manuscripts and other holy books. Its origin might ultimately hark back to China, where a document from the T'ang dynasty (618-907) mentions a process of coloring paper on water with five hues. Through the Silk Road this art came first to Iran and picked up the name Ebru. Subsequently this art moved towards Anatolia. Specimens of marbled paper in the Turkish museum and private collections date back as far as the 15th century but unfortunately there is no evidence to show at what date the art of marbling paper first appeared in Anatolia. Around the end of 16th century tradesmen, diplomats and travelers coming to Anatolia brought this art to Europe and after the 1550s, booklovers in Europe prized Ebru which came to be known as "Turkish Paper Turkish marbled paper making". After then it was broadly used in Italy, Germany, France and England. There is agreement amongst scholars that the so-called Turkish Papers has a colourful influence on the book arts of Europe. In the early examples from the 16th century in the Ottoman-Turkish era, Ebru appears in the battal (large) form, namely without any manipulation. Ebru technique consists of sprinkling colors containing a few drops of ox-gall on to the surface of the bath of water ...

The Dust Brothers : Syrian Drama about the Ottoman Occupation

The Dust Brothers : Syrian Drama about the Ottoman Occupation Tube. Duration : 4.08 Mins.

This clip is from a Syrian drama called "The Dust Brothers". It was produced in 1996. The tensions at that time between Syrian and Turkey rose and we were about to start a war in 1999. This movie describes the last days of the ottoman occupation and focuses on one of the execution methods that the Turks were so good and creative with. The execution by a metal or wooden stake. They stick it inside the victim body and use a hammer to push it deeper. They try not to hit the heart so the victim suffers for the longest possible duration. Turkey started its occupation with a stake and finished it with a stake, and during its 400-years occupation the stake had the upper hand... We tried to forget this history and focus on the collaboration with Turkey, but the Turks - at least the government - still have the sick dreams about renewing the Ottoman empire... Actually Turkey is responsible for dozens of genocides and crimes against humanity during its history. We all have heard about the recent conflict between Turkey and France about recognizing the Armenian genocide. The Armenian genocide must be recognized by the entire world along with many other genocides that were committed by the Turks against ethnic or religious groups such as the Syrians, the Alawites and the Kurds...

Al Mahdi, the Quraysh & the Ottoman Caliphate

Al Mahdi, the Quraysh & the Ottoman Caliphate Video Clips. Duration : 6.87 Mins.

The Ottoman Caliphate was abolished in 1924, ending almost 1300 years of the Caliphate of the Quraysh with brief intervals. Until the demise of the Ottoman Caliphate, the Muslim world remained alligned and united under Baiah (Oath of Allegiance) to the bloodline of the Quraysh and the Oath (Baiah) of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (uwbp). After its abolishment, the Muslim world lost its Oath of Allegiance (Baiah) to the Holy Prophet Muhammad through the link of the Qurayshite inheritance of the Ottomans. The reign of the Quraysh as Caliphs, which began with the first of the Rightly Guided Caliphs, Abu Bakr, then Umar, Usman and Ali was finally destroyed. The Holy Prophet Muhammad told his wife Aisha, in a hadith mentioned by Imam Ahmad, "the Quraysh are the backbone of the people, and the people shall be destroyed as soon as the Quraysh is destroyed". Although God's covenant is still evident with the Muslim world, due to their lack of allegiance to the Prophet Muhammad and his tribe, the Quraysh, the custodians of the Ka'ba and the well of ZemZem, they are being humiliated. Hence, as a form of penitence to God and His Apostle, devout Muslims worldwide pray daily for the advent of Al Mahdi, so they can once again renew their Baiah (Oath of Allegiance) to the Prophet Muhammad through the legacy of the Quraysh, to whom Al Mahdi will also belong, in addition to being from the best clans from within it, the Hashemites and the best of them, the descendents of the Holy Prophet ...

Instead my guy attacks me after 30secs with cav and starts a rather large pitched battle between my line and his, syno supports with cav and a small flanking detachment, after absorbing the initial attack I spring a counter. This is one of the few games where I have been acutally attacked so I decided to upload it, and thanks to WP| Pikachu for making this a challenge. (EN ) Belgrade (Serbian: Београд, Beograd ) is the capital and largest city of Serbia. The city lies on two international waterways, at the confluence of the Sava and Danube rivers, where the Pannonian Plain meets the Balkan Peninsula. Likewise, the city is placed along the pan-European corridors X and VII. With a population of 1630000 (official estimate 2007), Belgrade is the largest city in the territory of the former Yugoslavia and the third largest in Southeastern Europe, after Istanbul and Athens. One of the oldest cities in Europe, with archeological finds tracing settlements as early as the 6th millennium BC, Belgrade's wider city area was the birthplace of the largest prehistoric culture of Europe, the Vinča culture. First mentioned by the Greek sources, a settlement on today's location was founded in 3rd century BC by the Celts who named it the White City, which it still bears. It was awarded city rights by the Roman before it was permanently settled by White Serbs from the 600s onwards. The city of Sanandaj is the capital of the province, and lies at a distance of 512 km from Tehran, 1480 m above sea level. It is also the administrative centre of Sannandaj County (the shahrestān of Sanandaj) as well as of a district (bakhsh) with the same name as the city. The population of Sanandaj is mainly Kurdish, with an Armenian, Assyrian and Jewish minority. Armenian Folk Music - Armen Aloyan Vanadzori Tsitsernake Video Clips. Duration : 3.37 Mins.

Armenians against the Ottoman Empire (Ardziv Selatsir) Video Clips. Duration : 4.95 Mins.

The Armenian Genocide[1][2]—also known as the Armenian Holocaust, the Armenian Massacres and, by Armenians, as the Great Crime[3]—refers to the deliberate and systematic destruction of the Armenian population of the Ottoman Empire during and just after World War I.[4] It was implemented through wholesale massacres and deportations, with the deportations consisting of forced marches under conditions designed to lead to the death of the deportees. The total number of resulting Armenian deaths is generally held to have been between 1 million and 1.5 million.[5][6][7][8][9] Other ethnic groups were similarly attacked by the Ottoman Empire during this period, including Assyrians and Greeks, and some scholars consider those events to be part of the same policy of extermination.[10][11][12] It is widely acknowledged to have been one of the first modern genocides,[13][14]:177[15] as scholars point to the systematic, organized manner in which the killings were carried out to eliminate the Armenians,[16] and it is the second most-studied case of genocide after the Holocaust.[17] The word genocide[18] was coined in order to describe these events.[19][20] The starting date of the genocide is conventionally held to be April 24, 1915, the day when Ottoman authorities arrested some 250 Armenian intellectuals and community leaders in Constantinople.[21][22] Thereafter, the Ottoman military uprooted Armenians from their homes and forced them to march for hundreds of miles, depriving them ...

Balkan Wars The Balkan Wars were two wars in South-eastern Europe in 19121913. The First Balkan War broke out on 8 October 1912 when Bulgaria, Greece, Montenegro and Serbia (see Balkan League), having large parts of their ethnic populations under Ottoman sovereignty, attacked the Ottoman Empire, terminating its five-century rule in the Balkans in a seven-month campaign resulting in the Treaty of London. The Second Balkan War broke out on 16 June 1913 when Bulgaria, dissatisfied with its gains, attacked its former allies, Serbia and Greece. Their armies repulsed the Bulgarian offensive and counter-attacked penetrating into Bulgaria, while Romania and the Ottomans used the favourable time to intervene against Bulgaria to win territorial gains. In the resulting Treaty of Bucharest, Bulgaria lost most of the territories gained in the First Balkan War. Background The background to the wars lies in the incomplete emergence of nation-states on the fringes of the Ottoman Empire during the 19th century. The Serbs had gained substantial territory during the Russo-Turkish War, 18771878, while Greece acquired Thessaly in 1881 (although it lost a small area back to the Ottoman Empire in 1897) and Bulgaria (an autonomous principality since 1878) incorporated the formerly distinct province of Eastern Rumelia (1885). All three as well as Montenegro sought additional territories within the large Ottoman-ruled region known as Rumelia, comprising Eastern Rumelia, Albania, Macedonia, and ...

İstanbul Basilica Cistern / Yerebatan Sarnıcı HD 720p Video Clips. Duration : 6.55 Mins.

Beneath Istanbul lie hundreds of gloomy Byzantine cisterns. They're left from the days when Istanbul was Constantinople. The grandest of all is the Basilica Cistern (Yerebatan Sarnıç), so called because it lay beneath the Stoa Basilica, a grand Byzantine public square. It's also called the Sunken Palace Cistern (Yerebatan Saray Sarnıçı) because that's what it looks like. Whatever you call it, it's impressive because of its size, measuring 138 meters long and 64.6 meters wide, covering nearly 1000 square meters (2.4 acres); its capacity (80000 cubic meters—over 21 million US gallons) and its 336 marble columns. Remember the scene in the old James Bond movie From Russia With Love when Bond is rowing in a small boat through a forest of marble columns? That scene was filmed in Yerebatan. Built by Justinian after 532, the Basilica Cistern stored water for the Great Palace and nearby buildings. Lost to memory, it was rediscovered by Petrus Gyllius, who came to Constantinople in search of Byzantine monuments. Gyllius, who noticed that local people got their water by lowering buckets through holes in the floors of their houses, found an entrance and thus put it back on the map. The Ottomans used it to supply Topkapı Palace. Medusa head used as a column pediment Walkways and atmospheric lighting were installed during the 1990s so you can see all its curious corners.
